Irene graduated in 1970 from the University of London School of Pharmacy. She immigrated to Canada in 1986 and worked as a pharmacist then Associate with Shoppers Drug Mart for 13 years. She continued working as a community pharmacist joining DayNight Pharmacy in Hamilton in 2000. DayNight Pharmacy was then acquired through Rexall in 2007. For five years 2001-2006 Irene also worked in the stroke, acquired brain injury and spinal cored rehab program at Chedoke Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences. Her responsibilities included ward rounds, patient dosing and care plan development. Irene currently offers her consulting service at Stonechurch Pharmacy in Hamilton and Postmaster I.D.A in Oakville.
Irene has worked in women’s health for over 20 years and has built her women’s practice through consulting at DayNight, Rexall, Stonechurch and Postmaster Pharmacies. Through her consulting, Irene offers drug reviews, weight management, nutritional and natural medicine advice and post and peri-menopausal recommendations. Irene is an avid lecturer on women’s health issues for many organizations. She was also past board adviser on the Hamilton Women’s Health Network and Blossom Club of Hamilton. Irene co-hosted on the Rexall Health Matters radio show on 900CHML, as well as an hour-long listener call-in show. She has written many articles for pharmacy and health related magazines and has appeared on television. Her mantra is providing accessibility, pharmaceutical knowledge and value of the pharmacy health care team to the public.
Irene is a winner of the 2003 “Pharmacy Practice Commitment To Care Award” for best Pharmacist / Technician Team for her women’s health initiative program and also recipient of the 2005 Canadian Pharmacist Association Patient Care Achievement Award for Specialty Practice in Women’s Health. An important recognition for the OPA is the impact a pharmacist has on her or his practice. Irene was selected and presented with the 2006-2007 “Distinguished Practice Award” for her exemplary service she has provided as a consultant. She is a trained compounding pharmacist, specializing in bio-identical hormone replacement.
Irene is past present of the Hamilton District Pharmacist’s Association, having previously served for 10 years as President and Continuing Education Coordinator. She has also served as the elected board member for District 8 of the Ontario Pharmacist Association for two and a half terms. Irene is also a Teaching Associate for the Structures Practical Experience Program at the University of Toronto and is also involved as a member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists Committee’s.
Irene is a Certified Menopause Practitioner with the North American Menopause Society. She has also studied natural nutrition at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and consults on herbal medicines.
Irene has two daughters and enjoys tennis, skiing, swimming, yoga, watching her daughter play hockey and long walks with her dog.
